Letter to the Editor – Dave Allen

I’d like to point out some of the effects of Joe Biden being president for the last three and a half years. Medicare can nownegotiate with the pharmaceutical companies to lower the price of some medications. Diabetics on Medicare can now purchase insulin for no more than $35 per month. Unemployment has dropped to under 4% for most the last two years. (It did hit 4% in May.) Some 15 million jobs have been created. The latest stats show that 270,000 jobs were added in May. Hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs are coming into the American economy. A record number of small businesses have been started. Obamacare, under Biden, has continued to grow. This year 21.3 million people signed up for Obamacare. The number of uninsured in 2023 dropped to 7.2 million.

Inflation has been a bugaboo for Biden but it has come down to somewhere around 3.5%. In a column by Paul Krugmanlately he shows in a graph that between December, 2019, and December, 2023, wages have actually outpaced inflation and the bottom fifth of wage earners in the U.S. have seen wage increases—percentagewise—greater than the highest fifth of wage earners.

What else? Violent crime, especially homicide, is down in the U.S. The American Rescue plan also funded Covid vaccinationsand brought the pandemic under control. It also helped support child care providers. And there is the bipartisan infrastructure law. Roads, bridges, public transit, airports, long in need of repair or upgrading are now in line to get fixed. Add to that list the building of charging stations for EVs and the replacement of lead water lines.

Biden has also expanded benefits for veterans. And he has managed to get some relief for those who are weighed down bycollege loans. I have a friend who suddenly discovered this weight lifted from her shoulders after years and years of college loan payments.

There is more, much much more for anyone who looks. I’m thinking history will show him to be the best president since LBJ.

Vote for him for heaven’s sake.
