Chequamegon Democratic Party Values

Democrats know that America was built on moral foundations: the Declaration of Independence, the U. S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. American history teaches us that security for America is rooted in protecting the rights of ordinary, law-abiding citizens.

Those rights include the freedom of speech and expression; the freedom of religious expression while respecting the rights of others; the freedom to live a healthy life and to enjoy ample opportunities for education and earning a decent living; and the freedom from fear of terrorists or aggressive foreign governments as well as the freedom of fear from intrusive, secretive domestic authorities.

Who said?
1. The responsibility of the great states is to serve and not to dominate the world.

2. They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither their liberty nor safety.

3. The basis of a democratic state is liberty.

4. I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.

5. Public opinion in this country is everything.

6. If a free society cannot save the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

7. All of our people all over the country – except the pure-blooded Indians – are immigrants or descendants of immigrants, including even those who came over here on the Mayflower.

8. I am not a member of any organized political party – I am a Democrat.

 Answers: 1. Harry S. Truman, 1945; 2. Benjamin Franklin, 1759; 3. Aristotle, Politics; 4. James Madison, 1788; 5. Abraham Lincoln, 1859; 6. John F. Kennedy, 1961; 7. Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1944; 8. Will Rogers, 1935.

The Constitution of the United States is the oldest basic law governing any state still in existence — for good reason! It established a workable division of powers and a system of checks and balances. It is a relatively short document – another of its strengths. It has been amended only 17 times after the adoption of the Bill of Rights (the first ten amendments) at the birth of the new government.
